I've watched plenty of anime over the years. I've been into all sorts of genres, whether it be comedy, action, or even romance. But some of the stuff I watch can get pretty weird from time to time. In fact, some shows are so weird that it would be hard to explain what it is you were watching if somebody walked into the room. So, I decided to put together a list of some of the weirdest shows I've seen. However, I've seen even more weird shows since I started this list, so maybe I'll have to revisit this topic at some point? Without wasting anymore time, here's eight of the weirdest shows I've seen. 8.) ZOMBIE LAND SAGAThis anime combines two things I never really thought I'd ever see together: Zombies and pop idols. The show begins with the main character, Sakura Minamoto getting hit by a truck on her way to an idol audition. Instead of reincarnating in another world like in other shows where the main character gets hit by a truck, she is later revived, as a zombie. She ends up together with a few other women who had died at different points in time and the person that brought them together is the very eccentric Koutarou Tatsumi, who ends up acting as their manager. The whole idol group was his idea, too. With his help, the girls all end up performing as idols. Since they're all zombies, they have to use a lot of make-up. Hiding what they are isn't always easy though. There have been some times where they've freaked people out or at least come close to. While they do have fun together, their pasts do end up causing some trouble for them. 7.) The World God Only KnowsKeima Katsuragi is a huge fan of dating sims. In fact, he is one of the best at the genre. One day, he recieves a strange e-mail, mentioning some kind of challenge, which he accepts. The next the thing he knows is that he's got a collar around his neck that won't come off and a demon girl named Elsie appears to assist him. What he's supposed to do is make girls fall in love with him to save them from demons that possess them. The good thing is every girl that falls for him for gets about everything so he's able to keep going without anyone getting mad at him. To makes things worse, he has to keep this up or else the collar won't come off and he'll die. Unfortunately for Keima, getting girls to fall for him isn't exactly easy. The girls in real life or much different from the ones in his precious dating sims. It's kinda the same thing for a little while until some new characters come into the picture later on and make things more complicated. 6.) Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya*Spoilers for the Fate series* Fate/Stay Night was a visual novel that eventually became an anime and also recieved a handful of spin-offs. One of which stars one of the important characters in the original series, llyasviel von Einzbern. In this show, she starts off as an ordinary elementary school student living with her adopted older brother Shirou Emiya and two of her family's servents, Sella, the more serious one and Leysritt, the lazy one. One day, Illya suddenly becomes a magical girl when the magical Kaleidostick, Ruby finds her to be a more suitable master than the sorceress, Rin Tohsaka. Rin, who had been tasted to collect the seven Class Cards containing Heroic Spritis from legend, finds she can't change Ruby's mind has to supervise Illya when it comes to the task of collecting the cards. As this goes on, they encounter another magical girl named Miyu who is also trying to collect the cards. She is the master of Kaleidostick Sapphire, which also abandoned its original master who happened to be Rin's rival, Luvia Edelfelt. After some battles, Illya and Miyu collected all the cards and became good friends. Meanwhile, Illya and Luvia still don't like each other. Things end up getting more complicated when a dark-skinned girl named Kuro shows up. She has an extremely similar appearance to Illya. Oh, and she wants to murder Illya. Their fights are put to an end when Illya's mother, Irisviel shows up. So both of them are supposed to live together as sisters or something. But this is where the show gets extremely weird. Kuro needs mana to live and it seems to replenish it... she has to make out with people? I found myself looking away from the screen on multiple occasions. Not only is the process of restoring mana awkward as hell, but the outfits the kids wear at times, I'm not really comfortable looking at. It's just way too much skin for characters that are that young. That aside, in the end, Illya, Kuro, Rin, and Luvia are actually working together to face new problems that come their way. 5.) Please TeacherKei Kusanagi suffers from a very rare disease which causes him to go into a comatose state that's referred to as a "standstill" whenever he goes through severe emotional distress. He had previously gone into a standstill that lasted three years, so at the beginning of the story, he's eighteen years old with the body of a fifteen year old. After that, he ends up living with his aunt and uncle and wants to keep everything that happened a secret. The first thing that happens in the story has Kei by a lake where he witnesses several un-explainable phenomena. Before he knows it, a half-human alien named Mizuho Kazami appears before him. She had come to observe Earth in order to prevent humans from making developmental mistakes. Kazami was supposed to prevent her true identity and mission from being discovered, and she had already messed up. The very next day, Kazami has become both his new homeroom teacher and his next-door neighbor. The two later end up having a moment alone, and both of them dicuss their secrets. The school's headmaster finds them alone and questions what's going on between the two of them. Well, someone ends up stating that he and Mizuho are married, also revealing his true age. The headmaster then backs off because he was married to a former student younger than himself. The two of them are then allowed to stay as long as they do not reveal the fact that they are married to any of the other students and not perform any public displays of affection. The rest of the series has him trying to hide the fact that he and Mizuho are married and at the same time develops the relationships he has with his friends, one of which having a crush on him. 4.) Dog & ScissorsA high school boy named Kazuhito Harumi is obsessed with reading books. He unfortunately comes to an early death after being shot when protecting a stranger during a robbery. After his death, he is reincarnated as a long-haired dachshund. He is taken in by Kirihime Natsuno, the very person he tried to save who happens to be the only person who can understand anything he says. He ends up finding out that she is his favorite author, but unfortunately for him, she turns out to be a sadist that loves to terrorize him with scissors. Throughout the show, he'll encounter people that he knew when he was alive but since they can't understand him, communicating with them would be difficult. To make things worse, they aren't all that nice to him. 3.) FLCLI started watching this to see what all the hype was about when there would be two new seasons that year. What I got was a show that made no damn sense whatsoever. Overall, I had no clue what was going on, but I'll share what I did know about the plot, which is basically the plot you can find listed on any anime progress tracking website. The main character is a boy named Naota who is in sixth grade. His older brother leaves for America to play baseball, leaving his financially crippled girlfirend Mamimi behind. She ends up sending mixed signals to Naota, who doesn't know what to do about her. Unfortunately for him, things get worse when he is run over by a woman on a Vespa. Her name is Haruko Haruhara and she's an alien. Since meeting her, Naota's life is turned upside down and all sorts of weird and crazy things happen to him. By the end of the first season, I didn't know what I watched. The two seasons that came out in 2018 follow entirely new protagonists so that really didn't help clear up any confusion. To make things worse I don't really know what was going on in the new seasons either. I felt like they were only slightly easier to understand, to be honest. These seasons are kinda the same thing too. Haruko shows up and all kinds of crazy things end up happening. In the end, whether you actually understand FLCL or not, you'll probably at least agree that it's pretty damn weird. 2.) Gonna Be Twin-Tail!!Souji Mitsuka is a high school student who has an obsession with twin-tails. One day, when he and his childhood friend, Aika Tsube are at his family's restaurant, they encounter a strange alien woman named Twoearle. She ends up getting Souji to wear this bracelet and then the next thing they know, they are out in the city that's being attacked by some kind of monster. This is when Souji and Aika find out that there are these weirdo aliens that want to steal "attributes" from people. It turns out the very first monster Souji goes up against wants to steal the "twin-tail" attribute, so of course he'd want to do something about it. Twoearle instructs him on how to use the bracelet to activate his "tail gear", which by doing so, turns him into a girl. But even like this, he still fights the aliens. He ends up making the news as "Tail Red", which he finds incredibly embarrassing. To make things even more embarrassing, his mother knew he was Tail Red. After that, Twoearle ends up moving in with the Mitsuka family, even building a secret base under their house! At school, everyone is talking about Tail Red, which creeps Souji out. It turns out that even the student council president, Erina Shindou is a huge fan of Tail Red. Over time, Tail Red would get allies to help him/her defeat all these weird perverted aliens. This includes both Aika and Erina. The former calling herself Tail Blue and the later calling herself Tail Yellow. With everything that happens, it's interesting that Souji's mother can be so nonchalant about everything: her son turning into a girl, the perverted alien Twoearle trying to steal his virginity, and the fact that her son has become some kind of super hero. Never thought there would be a day where I could say I saw a show where a boy turns into a girl to fight perverted aliens. 1.) KämpferThis is definitely one of the most bizarre shows I've seen. The main character, Natsuru Senō goes to a high school where the boys are separated from the girls. He has a crush on his childhood friend, Kaede Sakura who has a collection of stuffed animals that are styled in brutal ways of dying called Entrail Animals. Natsuru ends up with one of these Entrail Animals, a stuffed tiger named Harakira Tora. One morning, he finds that he has turned into a girl. To make things
even weirder, the stuffed tiger turns out be alive and informs him that he has been chosen as a Kämpfer, a female fighter that must fight against other Kämpfer not on the same team which is indicated by the bracelets each one is wearing. By being a Kämpfer himself, Natsuru gets the attention of multiple girls who are also Kämpfer. At first, Natsuru has trouble controlling when he transforms. To make things worse, a Kämpfer on the student council decides that he is to start attending school as a girl. Because of this, he ends up having to balance two different school lives. He ends up going by the same name either way and for some reason, nobody really questions it. But thanks to everybody being too dumb to question that there are two people named Natsuru Senō, he's able to keep it a secret. That's not the worst part though - Natsuru's crush is attracted to his female form and it seems that she is connected to the formation of the Kämpfer. Many episodes have different Kämpfer fighting against each other and plenty of fan service. I had no idea what I was getting into when I decided to watch this. These are some of the weirdest shows I've seen. I'm sure someone could tell me they've seen weirder, but come on, do you really want to make this a competition? I already feel awkward enough admitting that I've watched some of these. But hey, if you're interested in these now that I've talked about them, I won't stop you. Just be prepared to turn your screen off if people walk into the room or even better, just watch these when nobody is home. There's plenty of fan service in most of these, so be careful. One last thing, don't even ask what I'm watching these days. I honestly don't even know anymore.
