As an Ace Attorney fan, I knew this was coming. On Switch, at least. It took me by surprise to see that the original trilogy of Ace Attorney games (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Justice For All, and Trials & Tribulations) would also be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One, AND Steam! Best of all it's planned for a worldwide release in early 2019! That was another surprise: how quick the localization was confirmed since the gap between the Japanese announcement of 2014's 3DS ports and the announcement of localized 3DS ports. The official English trailer for the new ports went up not long after this year's presentation at Tokyo Game Show.
Despite being promised "unmissable" content, there wasn't much new at the recent panel, disappointing a handful of fans. While I am slightly disappointed, I am looking forward to getting these ports because they do look pretty damn good if I'm honest. The best looking ports so far. It features updated artwork that's been used in the recent ports, which I'll be honest looked like total garbage in the iOS version, but improved in the 3DS despite that system being 240p. Now they look even better. While the health bar looks weird (no longer using the five-strike exclamation point system for the first game this time it seems), it's not too big of an issue. The UI looks alright for the most part. The text box looks pretty basic, yet fitting. But that's enough about how it looks. I'm sure the games will have the same quality. Perhaps more typos and errors will be fixed? It's looking like we'll be able to switch between Japanese and English as well. But honestly, I kind of want features from modern Ace Attorney to show up in ports one of these days. For example, jumping to a specific point of an episode you select, a system that allows hints for easier investigations (think the "Notes" system from Dual Destinies and Spirit Of Justice), galleries of CGs for evidence and events that occur during the games, perhaps a music player (like in the Layton series), perhaps even fix the penalty system from Justice For All so Pysche-Lock health and courtroom health are no longer combined (think Trials & Tribulations), and there are probably more things that could be done but that's all I'm going to list. Even if it doesn't have a handful of these things, I still look forward to trying these out.
