At one point, I was really interested in watching gender swap manga. However, finding content where the characters actually had their sexes changed was a little difficult because all of the recommendation lists and progress tracking sites had these grouped in with crossdressing or just going against gender roles. There was only so much I could find for anime so I ended up reading manga instead. Maybe a little too much manga? Well, I’ve read so much that I figured I should recommend some while at the same time praying at least most of these will get an anime adaptation at some point. 10. Onii-chan wa Oshimai!/ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister! This is the story about an older brother named Mahiro that’s pretty much a NEET. He stays at home playing video games, reading manga, and anything else typical for an otaku. One day, his younger sister, Mihari, who happens to be a scientist, has him try out some strange drugs. When he wakes up the next morning, he has the body of a middle school girl. Against his will, his sister makes him attend middle school where he makes some female friends and gets used to his life as a girl. Things aren’t perfect though since the drugs come close to wearing off sometimes and Mahiro ends up peeing herself more than once. Overall, it was an interesting read. 9. Gacha Gacha: The Next RevolutionA normal high school boy ends up trying out a Gacha Gacha video game but things go wrong due to a glitch. This glitch makes it so that every time Akira sneezes his gender will change. While he does have trouble, like transforming at the wrong times, he ends up using it to his advantage. As a girl, he ends up becoming closer to Yurika Sakuraba, a girl that he has a crush on. However, keeping this gender switching ability a secret isn’t easy. Akira is constantly getting into trouble all thanks to that video game. It was pretty entertaining but it is a pretty ecchi manga and the main character is a big pervert. 8. KimoOta, Idol Yarutteyo/Disgusting Otaku, Become An Idol!I once saw someone say that this could work just fine as a standard idol story without any gender swapping and while I kind of agree, I’m fine with this. The story follows an otaku named Yousuke Aisaka who happens to be a huge fan of idols. One day he wakes up as a female version of himself named Yoko. After getting over the shock, he, now a she, decides to become an idol. She meets idols she was a fan of, makes new friends, and struggles to be successful. So far, the gender swap doesn’t have much to do with the plot and it isn’t brought up very much. It’s still an interesting manga, though. 7. Tensei Pandemic/Gender Change PandemicBeing a boy with a feminine appearance can at times lead to people assuming your gender and that has happened more than once with Hinata Imamura. Due to some trauma with his first love, he wanted to become more manly than anybody else. One day, he ends up getting injected with a shot and the day after that, he ends up with a female body. To make things worse, if he were to kiss someone or transfer fluids, it would cause their sexes to change. This causes trouble throughout the school that most students aren’t even aware of. For a good while, Hinata hides the face that his sex has changed. While this was pretty interesting, it is pretty ecchi. 6. Boku GirlFor this next one, we’ve got another boy with a feminine appearance. Mizuki Suzushiro is constantly turning down the confessions of many boys that ask him out thinking that he’s a girl. To make things worse, the girl he likes thinks of him more as one of the girls than a potential love interest. After witnessing Mizuki turn a guy down, the trickster god Loki who has grown bored of playing tricks on other gods decides to prank Mizuki by turning him into a girl. Waking up as a girl, Mizuki ends up freaking out. Mizuki’s best friend is the first to find out about what happened but for a while, it’s kept secret from everyone else. Mizuki ends up spending the next several days hiding his new female body and secretly figuring out how to live as a girl. Like some of the previous stories on this list, this one was pretty ecchi too but it was still a good read. 5. Ore no Tomodachi ♂♀ ga Kawaisugite Komaru!/I am Worried that my Childhood Friend is too Cute! It’s nice when you can reunite with an old friend, but when you find out they’ve got a condition that changes their sex, it can make things pretty awkward. For the first time in ten years, Amano returns to the city he lived in as a kid. He meets with his childhood friend Yukio Sawataria who suddenly turns into a girl. While Yukio is happy to see their friend again, Amano feels more than a little awkward. It turns out that Yuko is affected by an illness called “spontaneous isomerism metamorphosis” that causes people to change sex at random times. Because of this. Amano will have to spend time with Yukio as a girl and also deal with other people that have the same condition. This manga is a bit ecchi as well, but it’s not too bad. I thought this was pretty enjoyable. 4. Mendokusagari Danshi ga Asa Okitara Onnanoko ni Natteita Hanashi/About a Lazy High School Guy Who Woke Up as a Girl One MorningThings were going normally for Shuuichi Hayasaka until one day his lazy roommate, Masamune Yasuda woke up as a girl. Having to suddenly share a room with a girl makes Hayasaka feel uncomfortable but Yasuda doesn’t really mind it because whether male or female he can still sleep. Everyone at the school finds out about it and there’s even an announcement made. For the most part, everyone just accepts what happened. Their classmate Sugimura is really into it because he’s a fan of gender swap stories. However, the same can’t be said about Shuuichi’s sister who had a crush on Yasuda. Overall, I really liked how casual this story is. There are also bonus chapters were Shuuichi becomes a girl instead. 3. Majitora!/Magical Trans!High school boy Minami-kun spots a poster for the Magical Girl Club asking for members. He decides to join thinking that he’ll get to see some cute girls cosplaying. Along with his childhood friend, he receives a smartphone app that will turn the phone’s owner into a magical girl. Minami-kun is pretty quick to get into this, often enjoying being in his new female body. Due to being so into it, Minami decides to do a lot of activities as a girl. Eventually, their club gets a rival and there’s some occasional fighting but for the most part, it’s just casual slice of life stuff. It was pretty entertaining. 2. Ame Nochi Hare/Clear Up After RainAmagai Gakuen, a prestigious school for boys, gets hit by an unusual spring storm during the entrance ceremony. Four boys who were late for the ceremony: Hazuki, Toma, Yusuke, and Junta get caught up in the storm’s violence and something strange happens. All of them get transformed into girls. They’re soon found by a staff member that gives them a place to stay, keeping their secret. It doesn’t take long for the boys to learn that every time it rains, their genders will change so they have to make plans according to the weather, sometimes attending a boy school and sometimes attending a school for girls. When I think of gender swap manga, this is one of the first I think of. I really liked this one. 1. Osananajimi wa Onnanoko ni/My Childhood Friend MUST Become A GirlOne day, Shuichi saves a magical fairy named Sylphy from drowning in a pond. To thank him, she offers to grant him a wish. Shuichi is quick to ask for a female childhood friend. However, it isn’t possible for Sylphy to create someone that never existed so instead she turns Shuichi’s male childhood friend, Iori into a girl. Iori isn’t happy about this but as long as he feels strongly about being male, his female form won’t last. But that’s not going to stop Sylphy, who continues to transform him into a girl. Thanks to this, his whole class knows about it. Iori has to deal with being transformed at inconvenient times and tries to keep it a secret from several people including his mother. To be honest, this is one of the most memorable gender swap manga I’ve read. These are my current picks for gender swap manga. I’ve read several others so another list could happen someday. It’s more likely than anime since there are way more for manga. Hopefully there was something here that caught your interest. If not, oh well. These are just a handful I liked that I wanted to say something about. Now that I have, I don’t really have anything else to say. So, either check these out or move on with your life.
